Lecturer, ICFAI University, Tripura

Abstract

The main objective of the study is to explore the various avenues in which we can use systematic, scientific, and reliable research to pin point various Opportunities that exist in the State of Tripura to increase Employment Opportunities. Special emphasis will be given to those Opportunities which encourage Inclusive Growth and minimal Environmental Risks. The State shares a very rich biodiversity and is a treasure of natural resources especially, plant species. Scientific studies have revealed that it possesses 1545 plant species.2 Besides more than 75% of the state’s total workforce is still dependent on agriculture for their subsistence.3 The State along with a rich diversity of medicinal plants also has a large pool of agricultural workers. Based on the above information it is worthwhile to identify research priorities which will help Tripura in converting this potential of medicinal plant resources and agricultural workforce into a thriving Medicinal Plant industry. The study uses a conceptual framework based on TOWS Matrix developed by Heinz Weihrich. The study primarily depends on secondary data analysis from various authentic sources and relies on earlier quality research done in field of Medicinal Plants both in India and abroad. The study throws light on how experts from different fields of knowledge can further contribute with their expertise and research in opinion building and successful mapping of Medicinal Plant Industry in Tripura
