ABSTRACT

In the financial industry. Mutual Funds have become a hot favorite of millions of people all over the world. A Mutual Fund is a trust that pools the savings ofa number of investors who share a common financial goal. The money thus collected is invested by the fund manager in different types of securities depending upon the objective of the scheme. A mutual fund is the most suitable investment for the common man as it offers an opportunity to invest in a diversified, professionally managed portfolio at a relatively low cost. At the retail level, investors are unique and are a highly heterogeneous group. Currently there are number of schemes which are available and AMCs compete against one another by launching new products or repositioning old ones. Unless mutual fund schemes are tailored to the changing needs, and the AMCs understand thefund selection/switching behaviour of the investors, survival of mutualfund companies will be difficult in future. With this significance, an attempt is made to study the attitude of mutualfund investors. The focal areas of this study are investment objectives ofinvestors, factors i.e.fund quality andfund sponsor quality that could influence their fund/scheme selection decisions and the features that investors look for in a mutual fund product.
