Abstract Introduction Neonatal tetanus and cord infections continue to be an important cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality in the developing countries. Cord care is, thus, an important issue that needs to be addressed. A Comparative descriptive study was carried out among 40 neonates who were delivered by LSCS. 20 neonates were selected for dry -cord care and 20 neonates for betadine - cord care by using convenience sampling method. Appropriate statistical test revealed that there was significant difference in cord falling between groups. Cord fall was quicker in dry-cord care group (Mean (In days): 5.15, as compared to neonates who received betadine - cord care (Mean (In days): 7.55; No statistically significant difference observed between the groups in gram stain and culture. The cord and stump observation and general manifestations were normal in all neonates. Conclusion It was concluded that dry-cord care had improved the wound healing, facilitated cord separation, reduced umbilical-care costs and can be practiced in all settings in home and hospital settings.
