In this scenario non core processes of an organization are tlie core business processes of a service provider. Tlie type of work being outsourced over the years has moved from mere data entry to expert knowledge services, thus making tlie BPO sector a knowledge intensive industry. Human resources are largely considered to be tlie most critical input for the effective and efficient performance of the knowledge intensive industry. However tin literature review indicates that this industry is plagued by high attrition rales and absenteeism. It is reported that in some organizations the attrition rate is to tlie tune of 65%.Tlie reasons for this plienomenon in tins sector are myriad in nature. To meet these cluillenges and sustain tlie growth in tlie industry there is a need to liave better quality of working life practices which can play a major role in building and harnessing tlie talent pool in the industry.. This paper discusses about the issues rocking this sector and tlie need to have best work life balance initiatives by the BPO units which can not only attract tlte talent but can also be successful in retaining the talent.
