Abstract

The present study was conducted to examine the relationship between academic stress and mental health among adolescents in a secondary school. A sample consisted of 120 school going students (60 girls and 60 boys) of ninth and tenth grade were administered questionnaires measuring academic stress, mental health. Mann Whitney U-test and multiple regression analysis of the data revealed that a substantial number 69 (56.6%) of the adolescents experienced low stress, while 3 (2.5%) were moderately stressed and 48 (39.3%) were highly stressed. Interestingly, significant difference was found across grade with regard to academic stress, but no difference by gender. Finally, multiple regression showed that academic stress significantly predicted mental health in adolescence in general and fear of failure in perticular.
