Evaluation of special township policy—Case study of Pune metropolitan region

Abstract

Most of the Developers across India have adopted the New Township Model. They develop self sustainable Townships on the outskirts of Metro Cities taking an advantage of globalization and a scheme (special Township Policy) introduced by Government of India and State Government. A new trend emerge to develop Special Townships in Urban Centers across India like Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and Pune. It is a trend that has played an essential role in opening the new ways for the private investors to invest in residential development through township that offers quality lifestyle. This study is an attempt to overview the expected success of Special Township Policy with the case study of Pune Metropolitan Region including the area upto Metropolitan Planning Committee (MPC) boundary in the Pune District.
