Abstract

Various microbial genera have been detected in petroleum-contaminated soil or water, which strongly suggests that each has a role in the hydrocarbon transformation process. An ability to isolate high numbers of certain oil-degrading microorganisms from an environment is commonly taken as evidence that those microorganisms are the active degraders of that environment. In this study investigation was done to compare the Cyanobacterial species isolated from the soil polluted with hydrocarbon to non polluted soil in same area. Also to know relationship between cyanobacterial populations with hydrocarbon concentration rate in polluted soil.
