Abstract Fro the development of cooperative sector cooperative act was passed in 1914. It has been 100 years since the enactment of this law. However, in rural India there has been great increage in poverty, bankruptcy and unemployment. There has been tremendous increase in the farmer's sucicide. In the initial 50th years cooperative movement didn't get success as benefits of the movement. Though cooperative institutions are helpful in the development of rural are a there are inherent shortcomings in its execution. There fore, the hardlels come across in the path to make it beneficial movement. If this movement is implemented effectively the contribution of cooperative institution turn beneficial for the development of rural India. The movement didn't develop as expected therefore it is important to find out the shert coming in the movement. However, after the Government of India's initiative and due to the policy of Reserve Bank of India, The co-operative movement got a momentum and it was reflected in economic & social benefits of the movement.
