Abstract

The Hindu Religion and Bramhinical Varna Order proliferated caste system. To evade the evil impact of the caste system the people of the lowest rung of the social system changed their faith and converted to religions like Islam, Christianity, Sikh or Buddhism. However the monster of caste system also comes in their path and they were branded as Dalit Muslims, Dalit Christians, Dalit Sikh or Neo-Buddhists. The caste system of Hindu Religion couldn't let off it's hold on the adherents of these relgions in India only with the exception of Buddhism. The unfortunate thing is that the egalitarian principles of these religions couldn't make any impact on the mindset of the followers of these respective faiths. We find the internal division among these religions on the basis of the castes. The autobiography of Tamil Dalit writer Bama “Karukku’ throws light on the plight of Dalit Christians. The autobiography gives an insight about the discriminatory attitudes of not only the Caste Hindus but also the High Caste Christians towards Dalit Christians. The present paper is written with an objective to explore and highlight the marginalized lives of Dalit Christians.
