The plight of indian women

Online published on 24 March, 2021.

Abstract

Whatever may the age, whatever may be the religion, women have always been considered as the second fiddle. The word ‘suffer’ in the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary has been described as ‘to experience physical and mental pain’. Marriage has been a very harsh experience for many women but the worst thing about it is that there is no escape from it. Most of the poems of Kamala Das are loaded with sentimental effusions about pains and peeves of unfulfilled love, hurts and humiliations of conjugal life, bestiality of sex, oppression of patriarchy and suppression of identity. Anees Jung's ‘Unveiling India’ records the personal experience of women across India.
