Abstract

Social consciousness governs the art of Arvind Adiga, who is influenced by the outer forces of conflict. The social and cultural conflicts have grabbed the position among the themes of post colonial Indian English fiction. The difference between two human beings, especially in term of social status, economic status and culture is widened in recent years which are observed minutely by the writers like Arvind Adiga. The purpose of this paper is to examine the conflicts depicted by the novelist in ‘Between the Assassinations’ capturing important events in the history of India. The researcher chiefly targets the difference of the upper class and the lower class, the strong and the weak, pointed by Adiga. His characters are replete with the inequalities of caste system. They bring out the everyday frustration due to the gap between two groups in society. The novelist has profound understanding of these dividing forces and he advocates equality. He has recorded many voices of protest muffled in weakness.
