Abstract

Continuity and change are integral to life; in fact Life is a journey constantly in flux. This essential feature of life is relevant to every single individual in particular as well as to a nation at large.

India is an ancient civilization that has seen through many twists and turns in its journey through time. Various races of people have arrived on the shores of this great nation and eventually have come to call its own. The indigenous culture has co-mingled and merged with the cultures of this people and has evolved as the unique culture of India. Thus, change is not something new for India as it has evolved and grown through times immemorial.

Independence was a major turning point in the history of the nation that earmarked a new journey for the country. Every sphere of life was impacted through the long years of colonization that later underwent the necessary process of decolonization to emerge in a new form in free India. Be it the field of agriculture, festivals, food, education or language, India has been a witness to transformations through which the nation has evolved, changed and has returned to its eternal roots.

This paper thereby aims to track this formidable journey of India in its journey of transformation and evolution into the new India of today.
