Abstract

The sharp rise and high volatility in agricultural prices have many ill effects. For example, a sharp fall in the price of any crop has a very bad effect on its producers. There is a sharp drop in their income and they hesitate to sow the same crop again the next year. If this crop is meant for the consumption of the general public, then next year the supply is likely to be less than the demand, and the government will have to import to fill this gap. If he does not have adequate stock of that agricultural commodity. On the contrary, if the price of any crop increases a lot in any year, then the consumers will be badly affected. If this item is an essential item of consumption, then the consumer will have to reduce the expenditure on other items to buy it. This can hurt the growth of other sectors of the economy. Keeping this in mind, there is a need to formulate an agricultural price policy that can protect the interests of both producers and consumers. In this research paper, the current trends of agricultural prices and agricultural pricing policy in India have been studied.
