Abstract

To meet the challenges of our current and future food demand without deteriorating the environmental quality is the need ofthe hour. Indiscriminately high and imbalance use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture led to vast adverse effect on crop ecology leading to poor crop and soil productivity. A sustainable rather than intensive and exploitive approach to crop production is imperative to meet the unified objective of both food as well as environmental security. For sustainability of economic production in short run and environment protection in log run, integrated nutrient management and integrated pest management are the potential key factors. Hence, they need to be given utmost priority in formulation of crop production strategy for reorientation towards sustainable crop and soil productivity alongwith environment protection.
