Online published on 5 January, 2012. Abstract Ameloblastoma is an aggressive neoplasm arising from the odontogenic epithelium which exhibits a locally invasive behavior with a high rate of recurrence. If left untreated, it may often lead to extensive tissue destruction and deformity. These tumors show wide morphological spectra and may pose diagnostic difficulties. Of the many types encountered, acanthomatous ameloblastoma is a rare variant that possesses distinctive features. There are very few reports of acanthomatous ameloblastoma (AA) occurring in female patients. In this paper we report a rare case of acanthomatous ameloblastoma of the mandible in a female patient which was histologically confirmed and successfully treated surgically.
