A Comparative Study of Integrated Crop Management and Farmers’ Standard Practice in Chilli Crop in Telangana
Abstract
A comparative study of integrated crop management (ICM) and farmers’ standard practice has been conducted in chilli cultivation by selecting 30 ICM and 30 non-ICM farmers from the Gudepally village of Warangal district. The average landholding size of ICM and non-ICM farmers was 4.4 ha and 2.5 ha, respectively. For ICM and non-ICM farmers, the total average cost of cultivation of chilli crop was 259188/ha and 243611/ha respectively and the gross returns were 463145/ha and 318600/ha, the returns on investment were higher for ICM (1.79) than non-ICM(1.31) farmers and the post-harvest management cost of chilli cultivation was lower for ICM ( 9726/ha) than non-ICM ( 14800/ha) farmers. The study has revealed that adoption of ICM technologies in chilli cultivation results in high profits and good quality product. The state agricultural department should take initiatives, extension activities and trainings for promotion of the ICM technologies and should encourage mechanization in chilli cultivation.
