Online published on 8 December, 2011. Abstract Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) was first described by Thurnam in 1848. It is a rare, X-linked, recessive disorder characterized by anhidrosis or hypohidrosis, hypotrichosis, dental hypoplasia and characteristic facial features. Missing teeth or abnormal tooth form may be the first indicator of the disorder. Oral rehabilitation in these patients is difficult to manage because of the oral deficiencies typical in this disorder and because afflicted individuals are quite young when they are evaluated for treatment. This clinical report describes psychological management and oral rehabilitation of a 20 year old male patient with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia accompanied with partial anodontia. Top Keywords Ectodermal dysplasia, partial anodontia, genetic disorder, syndrome. Top |
