Abstract

In clinical practice day to day increase in the prosthetic replacement with implants has made the dentist a regular user of implant systems. From placement to rehabilitation it is a hard task to perform and even harder is to get the performance of the replaced prosthesis. Encountering problems in the implant retained prosthesis is more common after loading. The failure of dental implants is due not only to biological factors, such as unsuccessful osseointegration or the presence of peri-implantitis, but may also result from technical complications. The abutment screw fracture represents a rare, but quite unpleasant failure. Several factors have been implicated in the etiology of these technical failures, including excessive occlusal load, fatigue, improper placement techniques, non-passive fit of the suprastructures. Retrieval of the fractured abutment screw and to use the well osseointegrated implant represents a challenging aspect in implant dentistry.
