Abstract

One important diagnostic tool currently used in determining whether the pubertal growth has started, is occurring, or has finished is the hand wrist radiographic evaluation. Biologic age, skeletal age, bone age, and skeletal maturation are nearly synonymous terms used to describe the stage of maturation of a person. Because of individual variations in timing, duration and velocity of growth, skeletal age assessment is essential in formulating viable orthodontic treatment plans. Key Words Skeletal age, maturation, roentgenograms, orthodontic and orthopaedic therapy
