Abstract

This document describes the application of the AMPHY methodology to the EDF's Pouget penstock in order to optimise its maintenance policies for the next years. This methodology depends on a risk quantification. After having collected data concerning the penstock (design date, degradation data and operating conditions) and performed complementary expertise, the study consisted in quantifying consequences of penstock failure and reliability of penstock sections. Several possible maintenance strategies were proposed. The maintenance strategy corresponding to the best riskcost compromise in accordance with decision makers’ preferences was finally chosen. The study shows the feasibility and the interest of the AMPHY methodology that includes both risk-informed analysis and GEMAUT analysis. The AMPHY methodology which has been applied permitted to optimise the maintenance policies of the Pouget penstock. This methodology has the following advantages: The risk analysis plays a major role in the methodology. It uses all available information concerning the penstock, its degradations and its operating conditions. Therefore, the maintenance costs are limited at the penstock sections that mostly contribute to the overall risk. This method facilitates operating & maintenance teams, experts and decision makers to work together. Resulting from the application of the GEMAUT analysis, the maintenance decision also corresponds to the best risk-cost compromise that is shared by the EDF decision makers. The final decision is justified and shared by every actors.
