92. Potential for Improvement of Hydro Plant Maintenance Mayrhuber J. (Proceedings, Hydro 2003, Vol. I, Croatia, pp. 207–213). Abstract By comprehensive measures for a marketable maintenance strategy, optimisation of the maintenance process in connection with, permanent technical and organisational development in, a procedure-oriented maintenance organisation, a significant reduction of maintenance expenses (by about 30% in 8 years) could be achieved without any loss in safety and availability. However, in order to achieve this, established structures and procedures need to be analysed and orientated in a radial way towards the new objectives. Any success achieved up to now lies in the fact that existing experiences and plant knowledge have been successfully used. Furthermore, in order to organise maintenance expenses more flexibly, an additional reduction of company personnel is planned and external services and personnel shall be acquired. It will be the challenge of the future to secure our own know-how for further use, to achieve a higher flexibility by employing external personnel (shorter revision periods, short-term employment of personnel), and also, to continue technical improvements of the facilities. Therefore, services and personnel have to be acquired from the market and detailed problems will be increasingly solved by external specialists in the future.
