46. Energy Efficiency – Opportunities in Municipal Systems

Kamath Madhav, Kumar G. Hari

(IEEMA Journal, January 2004, pp. 32–35).

Abstract

The urban population in India is growing at a rapid rate than projected. Municipalities in the country have been continuously struggling to provide good quality and sufficient potable water for the growing needs. Also, due to growing needs of commercial and urban transport, municipalities are having tough times in planning and designing cost-effective solutions for street lighting systems. Energy efficiency is an integral component of any country's energy strategy to address the supply and demand for energy in a balanced set of policies. It should reduce the reliance on available energy resources, reduce cost and mitigate the environmental impact of energy usage.
