37. The Sava River Multipurpose Development Scheme for the City of Zagreb Pavlin Z., Pletikapic Z., Berakovic B. (Proceedings, Hydro 2003, Vol. I, Croatia, pp. 447–454). Abstract The paper briefly presents issues related to the Sava River development and its harnessing at the City of Zagreb territory. In the long run, this scheme will enable that the potable water demand of the City of Zagreb and its greater area be covered, and that the demand for food and energy be partly met. The scheme will also open new town planning options in the project site neighbourhood, enable preservation of natural assets and creation of new sport and recreational amenities. Further, the new system is planned to enhance the river valley flood control, stabilise the riverbed, improve quality of the Sava water, stagnant and ground water, and improve safety of the existing systems (power generation, water supply, draining, sewage…). Alternative approaches are presented to finding of an optimum solution while respecting the economical, environmental, social, developmental and urban values. The selected solution is described and the conditions necessary for its implementation presented. Top Keywords Harnessing, Potable water, Preservation, Alternative approaches, Urban values. Top |
