Abstract

Anger is a noxious experience of annoyance for which someone or something is held accountable and that implies hostile and aggressive dispositions and actions toward the instigating agents and conditions. Adolescence is the period of transition, where they confront almost daily, their own feelings of anger and those of other people with whom they come in contact. The objective of the study was to assess the expression of anger between the adolescent boys and girls. A descriptive research design was adopted for this study. The study was conducted in Nazareth College of Arts and Science, Kovilpathagai, Avadi. 100 students (50 boys and 50 girls) fulfilling the inclusive criteria were selected by non-probability purposive sampling technique. Modified state trait anger expression inventory was used to measure the anger between boys and girls. Analysis revealed that 10 (20%) of girls and 7 (14%) of boys had minimal anger expression, 27 (54%) of girls and 15 (30%) of boys had mild anger expression, 10(20%) of girls and 23(46%) of boys had moderate anger expression, 3(6%) of girls and 5 (10%) of boys had severe anger expression. And it also revealed that boys had more anger-outburst and girls had anger-in. And anger control was good among girls when compared with boys. Hence, as a health provider the researcher should emphasize to the students about anger management techniques and vent their in a constructive way. The psychiatry nurse as a nurse educator should aim at reorienting general education system and professional curriculum to suitably incorporate the anger management strategies so as to equip the student emotionally stable to face any sort of problem in life.
