Growth, yield and economics of Rajmash (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) as influenced by different tillage and residue management under temperate conditions

Abstract

A field experiment to study the growth and yield parameters of rajmash (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) as influenced by tillage and residue management was conducted during kharif 2018. The soil was silty clay loam in texture having medium in soil organic carbon and available primary nutrients. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design (factorial) comprising of different tillage systems namely conventional (CT), rotary (RT), minimum (MT) and zero tillage (ZT) as first factor and two residue management practices i.e., no residue (NR) and application of brown sarson residue (SR) as second factors were supplemented to all the tillage treatment. The results of one-year experiment showed that growth and yield parameters of rajmash responded more with rotary tillage and conventional tillage than zero tillage and minimum tillage. However, seed yield in zero tillage (1873 kg ha-1) was comparable to conventional tillage (1936 kg ha-1). Residue application also increased the growth and yield parameters. Benefits cost ratio was comparatively more (5.37) in zero tillage and sarson residue (4.04).
