Abstract

Within the dynamic landscape of India’s burgeoning food industry, this research paper examines the supply chain management practices within six food processing units situated in Jammu District. Despite the sector’s integral role in India’s economy and a projected revenue surge to $535 billion by 2025-26, processing levels persist below 10 per cent, revealing a critical gap. Focused on the supply chain strategies of these units, the study highlights the Real Rana Group of Industries as a standout example due to its robust direct access links to consumers across supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and retail shops, fostering superior supply chain performance. Moreover, the research scrutinizes the influence of external factors, notably the disruptive impact of the COVID19 pandemic on industry players. Amidst this upheaval, Rana Enterprises experienced significant growth, in stark contrast to the decline witnessed by Kamal Food Industry, potentially linked to inadequate market brand awareness. Emphasizing the paramount importance of efficient supply chain management, this study underscores its pivotal role in augmenting the performance and profitability of food processing units within the region. The findings advocate for heightened attention towards optimizing supply chain practices within India’s food industry. Given the sector’s remarkable growth trajectory, optimizing these practices becomes imperative to satiate escalating demands and harness India’s latent potential as a key global player in the expansive realm of food trade.
