Abstract

This study was conducted in three regions Ganga-par, Gomti-par, and Tarai of Hardoi district. A total of 150 farmers were interviewed as per structured schedule to assess the source of power being used by the farmers of marginal, small, semi-medium, medium and large categories. The analysis of survey data revealed that about 59.5 per cent farmers were using these animal powers for various farm operations in Hardoi region. Amongst animal power, bullocks were utilised maximum by 80.33%, 70.0%, 54.0%, 24.0% and 4.7% farmers for various farm operations in the selected regions of marginal, small, semi-medium, medium and large categories, respectively. The average percentage use of farm implements was highest (58.21%) for large farmers in Tarai region and lowest (8.11%) for marginal farmers in Ganga-par region. Animal energy was highest (439.07 MJ/ ha) for small farmers in the Gomti-Par region and lowest (68.03 MJ/ha) for large farmers in the Tarai region. For marginal farmers, human energy was highest (343.44 MJ/ha) in the Ganga-Par area and lowest (145.83 MJ/ha) in the Tarai region. Farm implements and machine energy was highest (4148.65 MJ/ha) for large farmers in the Gomti-Par region and lowest (900.40 MJ/ha) for small farmers in the Ganga-Par region. Animal energy costs were lowest for big farmers (114.40 Rs/ha) and highest for small farmers (733.04 Rs/ha). For marginal farmers, the human cost of energy was the lowest (2932.97 Rs/ha). Machine energy costs were lowest for marginal farmers (2757.86 Rs/ha) and highest for big farmers (12615.31 Rs/ha).
