Current trends in professional social work: A social psychological approach

Abstract

The current trend in professional social work is micro professional social worker. It is focused on family and individual. When these family are suffering from metamorphosis of joint family system into nuclear family system. In which all the families members want to abide according to their own develop new conventional norms rather than traditional norms of 19^th century. Resulting they want to prefer to live by own life style without any interference of the family members. Sometimes, these members do not accept these change in the family resulting develop defective family environment; family maladjustment; alcoholism; stress and mental health problem etc due to interpersonal conflict with family members. Occasionally, these family members converted their conflicts into legal form and take assistance by the police. Before to legal action taken by the police these cases have been sent to the licensed holder professional social workers or clinical psychologists whatever available in particular state. They have been appointed by the state Government at police station. The professional social worker evaluates the nature of interpersonal conflict of social –psychological issues of individual (client) for the management through social case work and counseling technique. They applied counseling model which is depend on involvement of the client, exploration of his or her problem then understanding of the problem and finally make the action plan for the change in the thinking, attitude and perception of the client to solve the problem of the client for the better adjustment with new and old conventional norms of the family as well as society in present social system. For this purpose, sometimes traditional belief also playing their significant role as action counselor in rural area to sole out the problem of client.
