Report - 7th International Conference Theme heme “Business transition: The road Ahead”

The three-day International conference started with great fer vor and glimpse with its first session, which was devoted to International Seminar on “Managing Intellectual Property”. Dr. D.S. Chauhan, Vice Chancellor, UP Technical University inaugurated this session. He appreciate the efforts made by INMANTEC in organizing seminars, conferences national and international for students and corporates. And further said it's really great effort through this the message can go across the globe with the help of it a synergic approach could be procured and made further strategic for the industry and traders by way of exchanging their experience and views. Thereafter Mr. Rodney D. Ryder, Legal Advisor to Govt. of India; being a par tner in organising this conference, represented from his organisation i.e. PreConcept and chaired the session. First speaker of this session Mrs. L. Balasubramanyam, Head of Intellectual Property in Corporate Law group presented her experiences and experts views. She emphasized that how today's dynamic environment succeed and flow with the time and the market. The next speaker Kr. Peter D. Symons from Brazil shared his vast experiences about intellectual properties and said that counter signing is the greatest threat to the Intellectual Proper ty today and further suggested that relevant authority should come up with certain policies and regulation to check it.

In the continuation of the second session Mr. K. S. Kardam, assistant controller of patents, Govt. of India appraised the house further about the objective and advantages of patent law in India how it function and what so far the modus of operandi is being taken in connection with the patent law. He gave procedural aspects, how to go on. Secondly, Mr. Gautam Shroff, Vice President, Technology program, Head of Technology Innovation lab, TCS described that today each organizations are facing massive competition whereas to tap the same fora into the realm of the need it is necessary to describe beautifully its every aspects and make people to avoid conviction that have changed the matter of discussion among the people. He further gave an example of US, that any proposal for funding the business house no venture capital is needed there. With the concluding remarks of the chairperson, the Seminar being consolidated with great apprehensions in the area of Intellectual property.

The second session, was meant for our formal Inauguration of the International Conference on ‘The Business Transitions Road Ahead’. It started with lightening of the lamp followed by Saraswati Vandna. The chief Guest, His Excellency Mr. Graeme Waters, inaugurated this Inaugural session, thereafter Prof. Pankaj Gupta, the executive director of INMANTEC gave his welcome speech and applause the INMANTEC's efforts so far in organizing kind of such International Conference and said it has taken a new shape in the country and over the globe and further appraised that things happened only because of our entire team members affectionately love and appraisal. The current ranking also shows us those faculties of the institution are working hard on students and overall image building. He added further that the institute is making efforts to improve its ranking. To make the relevant aspect with this International conference, he emphasized further that all the businesses are facing stiff competition today hence to make every business at the same rhythm of global, there is need to divert some connectivity at the pace of changing foray and make a real endeavor to have a real dimensional path that could be a new path of competitive to meet at end of every new tasks of the day. With giving some example he said, A number of Indian businesses are family owned and some are finding business transition dif ficult. He added in his inaugural speech that the future of multiple businesses is very bright and family owned business should understand this. That's why now the new management students are studying this aspect in the institutions and INMANTC is concentrating on this aspect. He identified the dif ferent phases of business transition and how businesses passed through these phases to lead towards transition. After his speach Mr. John Fennerty, Economic minister counselor, Embassy of USA to India said that India is a leader of future because its economic reforms are attracting a lot of players to the country. There are a number of intellectuals in India. Indians have shown their brainpower in each and every field. The number of students studying in India is, maximum in the world. This shows how much intellectuals India is producing. He also said that India is the future economic and political power and US is proud to develop collaborations with this country. Indian companies are well competing with the global leaders in various fields e.g. software. This is because Indian people are more confident and this confidence is threatening the US. US are very much keen to establish dif ferent collaborations with India. According to Mr. Fennerty Indo-US partnership is very good for mutual development and also for the global perspective. He did not comment much on the nuclear issue between the countries. According to him Indo-US partnership is getting success on all the fronts and US sources give maximum credit to India. In developing these partnership Indian authority are doing well.

In the continuation of this session, Mr. B.P. Singal, former MP of Rajyasabha and chairman of the board of governor, INMANTEC stressed on the quality of education deliverance to the students in the Institute and appraised that it is very much entrepreneurial and further motivate to the students to empower themselves more on it which can help them fur ther to enhance their credibility and exploit the current global scenario. Later he emphasized on knowledge management to encourage, failing which we will loose the purpose of life i.e. salvation of life, the want of utmost satisfaction. Later the chief Guest of the session were His Excellency Mr. Graeme Waters, The high commissioner to India of the New Zealand, praises much Indian governments’ initiatives and said that New Zealand has enormous confidence in India in terms of business. New Zealand is a very small country as compare to India, but for making better relationship with India it is providing study opportunities to Indian students. In New Zealand Student get some different facilities such as lesser fees, opportunity to work while studying. He said New Zealand is a beautiful country and a number of Indian tourists visit the country every year. The people of New Zealand like Indian movies, he added. With the last words he hoped that India and New Zealand relationship would get stronger gradually. Soon after his speech the next speaker Mr. C.M. Krishna, Advisor, PHDCCI was called whereas he said that world is moving fast and so does India. Public-private par tnership is doing better in India but share of Private sector is more than 65%. Private companies are going fast towards business Transition. There are three parts of business transition according to him. The organization has to work hard in all the three parts. These three parts are 1) Change in the mindset of the people is highly necessary. 2) System of transition should not be overlooked, after all there is an Indian ness and integrity and these cannot be sacrificed for any reason. 3) New technology and other statistical tools should be taken care of for business transition. After him Mr. Sanjay Dwivedi, Director, STPI one of our sponsors, came over the dais and emphasized much on use of Internet. He applause much of its use and said it has got much height by gaining maximum knowledge. He said that outsourcing is a revolution in India, which has given a boost to the Indian business as we can see that we have diversified from BPO to KPO. According to him business transition consists of connectivity, flow of information and all information being used. The Last speaker of this session were Mr. Manish Dhanda, product manager of EFY said that EFY is one of the oldest media grouping IT magazine which is benefiting a number of students worldwide. For business people should ready and carry out changes. Changes should be in a way, which should benefit the country and businesses. For better development employee should be motivated by joining their goals with that of the organization and making them a part of the company's vision.

Mr. P. Viswas praised the INMANTEC's journal, Pranjana. He said that the new issue of the journal is published with close association with the LINCOLN UNIVERSITY of Pennsylvania. Then the new issue of Pranjana was inaugurated with Mr., B.P. Singal, Mr. Jean Joseph Boillot and Dr. Aftab Alam - the Editor-in-Chief and all distributed the copy to each.

The Guest of Honor, Dr Jean Joseph Boillot, Financial counselor, was also not remain untouched to enlighten the session He was from the Embassy of France, said that India is not a leader but has a potential to become leader. Only India is not moving but the whole world is moving. India is having a billion of poor and to solve this situation students and citizen have to work hard. Europe is experiencing a dramatic change as member of EU has increased from 6 to 32. It is also a leader now ahead of India, China, and Brazil etc. Some companies e.g. Spain Bulgaria etc. do not have close ties with India but these are very much developed. Now black from Africa are just behind us because there business are also growing with globalization and also the mineral riched. At last he said if India has to be a leader it has to resolve all the disputes e.g. with Pakistan, China etc. According to Mr. Boillot National borders must disappear in order to grow. At last 1st day of the International Conference was concluded with vote of thanks by Prof. Sachdeva. Dean, INMANTEC.

The second day of International conference was on Thematic one, first of its theme devoted to Technical session on ‘Knowledge, Culture & Change whereas Dr. B.K. Passi, KMUTT University, Thailand, chaired the first session and explained that HRD lies today in learning to learn facts, ie also can be rely on information, knowledge & wisdom. He categorized the future of four kinds predicted, possible, preferred, and plausible. The second speaker Mr. G.P. Rao, vice president, HR, JK Tyres explained the pillars of organizational capability that includes various knowledge, critical judgments, R & D, Patents & copyrights. Culture refers to core values that could be respected transparency & business ethics, core of conduct and practices of management. According to him change includes openness, productivity, adaptability and speed. Third speaker Mr. Raghunath Thali pointed out about the business reality, which consists innovation, organizational responsiveness, customer focus, supply network and internal quality. He further told that knowledge management is an intangible asset and its benefits are based on effectiveness, innovations, competitive advantage etc. The continuing session the next speaker were Mr. Jugdeep Khandpur who explained that culture comprises of value and behavior and its importance are:

  • Culture is essential for marinating corporate cohesion.

  • Culture influences top management thinking and thereby impart business outcome.

  • Culture influences the development of management depth in an organization.

Mr. Pritpal S. Kular explained that organizational culture is a reflection of organizational leadership. He emphasized on five steps, which triggers changes. He also told that culture knowledge should be such that ever yone knows, understands and abided by.

The second session was conducted and chaired by Lt. Gen H. Lal, Director General, FICCI, and Quality Forum. He spoke about the competition seen now a day in the Indian industry. He also said about the assets of India. The chairperson, Mr. Lal explained the assets of India is known as the abundance of natural resources, industrial infrastructure, low cost labor etc. He also said that the general quality preceptors may fell into three categories as—higher quality cost, mere emphasize on quality effects productivity, organized quality and heavy investment. Quality can be improved by inspection. Then he told about why these occur—

  1. Direct reflection on quality performance of India.

  2. Need for certification system Then he told about the economic impact of quality management and the sigma level of cost of quality. He represented the chart of the sigma levels.

On the other hand Mr. Ajay S. Pandey spoke on the agenda of quality, which includes learning from deployment, deployment practices of six-sigma. Then he said that the principle of quality strategy states that it is a state of fluid between the customers and producers and they both trust each other to get profit. Six-sigma is built on this principle of customer satisfaction. Then he explained about six-sigma journey. He also represented the theoretical model, which includes the process of six-sigma journey, in which analysis is the key factor. The analysis is difficult and complex. It requires thinking and need deployment of tools. Lastly he told about the company philosophy. Focuses of DMAIC methodology etc. He ended the presentation with talking about business strategy can help in turn around companies in the future with the help of six-sigma.

Mr. Jagjit Singh, country manager, BSI, spoke about the agenda involves the role of certification bodies, quality as overall perspective, ISO-9001-2001 over view of the suggested solution. He explained the ISO management system approach. Management of quality, which includes the quality control, quality assurance about managing quality in the case of ISO 9001–2001 overview he compared the quality management system with control of production quality. He spoke about the ISO 9001–2001 management principle, that it includes the process approach and leadership.

Mr. Richard Kaszube, chief executive, India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh, BVOI. He spoke about the industrial services. He focused on the transport and system certificate in quality. Later on he explained about the concept relating to quality. It includes the concept relating to the quality management, quality placing, quality control, the quality cost and the perception cost & appraisal cost.

After the launch 3rd session star ted, which was conducted and chaired by Dr. S. chandrasekher, Chairperson & Director, IT, FSM. The first speaker of the session was Mr. Tarun Das. He spoke that there are different type of risk, policies of the system. The risk is market based. He spoke about the liquidity risk, credit risk, currency risk, interest rate risk, and convertible risks. He explained the political and country specific risk, appropriation of capital, nationalization of companies, separation of capital, Auditor y/accounting risks, operational risks. The need of strength system is of identification of risks, management information, management of external debt and sovereign external debt. He explained reduction of gross fiscal by four indicators— revenue deficit, fiscal deficit, tax and income of external debt. Dr. Suresh Nandey, regional CEO (North & East), ING Vysya Bank, spoke about the risk management in banking. He explained the capital regulations by RBI. He added that hold of capital and reserves sufficient to risks arises from the business. Then he proceeded with the enlargement of focus from depositor protection to financial stability. After that he explained risks as it is of 2 types

  • Qualitative

  • Quantitative

Mr. Amit Kothari, Dy. Vice president, Risk Management, Kotak Bank spoke about the difficult perspective occurring in the banks. He categorized the perspective as regulatory, shareholders, and organizational perspective. Proceeding further, he told about the risk management process, risk measurement techniques, value risk, risk rating, bank testing, stress testing, gap analysis. Then the next speaker Mr. Laxmi Kant Gupta, Head-Risk Management, Franlik Tempelton spoke about the enterprise wide risk management. The decentralized risk includes the credit risk, Market risks, security risks, etc. The operational risks can be avoided through the decentralized operational risk issue and business continuity plan and finally he spoke about the financial distress that hoe you can avoid the distress.

In the 4th session Mr. Amitab Singhal said on diffusion and Integration: IT

  • IT is useful in many emerging areas like E-mail. E-chat, Newsgroup. Wireless technologies.

  • Multiple technologies can be integrated at one place.

  • E.g. use of IT in a classroom—A comparison between previous and current scenario.

  • During 1990 to 1995, teachers were less educated about IT.

  • After teachers have given attention on IT as they tend to use it.

Mr. Shivaji chatarjee said about IT in rural context rhat

  • Integration means integration of different technology at one place.

  • Diffusion means to provide wider area by widening the dimension of IT.

  • It in rural area has been implemented by various organizations like NIC (National Information Center), Direcway, DCM Shriram Group.

  • NIC has set up its various centers in North India and now planning to establish in other parts of India.

  • Various plans as e-choupal, e-governance, e-panchayat have been stated.

  • DCM Shriram has established fee based Hariyali Kisan Bazar (HKB), where farmers can sell their product and get money for their products

23rd of November

This was the third and last day of International conference whereas in the first session the topic was devoted on Entrepreneurship. The first speaker Dr. Sanjeev Bikachandani explained that capital today availability is much poor for start up in an early age of any organization. Environment challenges remain high. He further told that most entrepreneurial stories are not in manufacturing. Hence there is a need to let them cope with the basic rhythm and tune and flute it properly. In this regard Mr. Shafan Raina explain on “Energy Independence in building — A strategy for Entrepreneurship.” He explained that Indian unprecedented growth has increases energy demand. Energy conservation is not sought while constructing a building to meet its cooling ventilation lighting. He told about Energy conservation in buildings & multi disciplinary should be holistic. For this adaptation approach some steps to be evolve for energy saving. The second speaker of this session were Dr. S. K. Aggrawal explained the ‘characteristics of an entrepreneur’ he described that the characteristics of entrepreneur can be built up on passion, energetic, hardworking etc. with citing the example of STPI in promoting entrepreneurs - he applause a lots of its credibility over its support system, specially in the areas of small, medium & large-scale enterprises.

The last speaker of the session Mr. Udhesh Kohli summed up with his concluding remarks that ‘entrepreneur should face all the challenges and be passionate and hard working’.

Over the above, this conference has left an indelible marks on the particpants, organsisers, and welwishers and over the students which further can do help in building a Road for future pace of business in ever-changing pace of its development.
