Online Published on 19 March, 2024. Abstract Dolichos bean is being grown in an area of about 120 ha in Gariaband district. Mostly local varieties of lablab were cultivated. Though Dolichos bean fetches good prices in the market, low productivity due to the lower yield potential of the local varieties has been observed, which recorded upto 35 % in many cases. To address the problem, improved varieties of Doilchos beans were introduced and their performance was evaluated in Gariaband district of the Chhatisgarh State. The Farmers practice (T1) was local variety, technology recommended practice (T2) was Indira Sem-1 released by IGKV, Raipur and recommended practice (T3) was Indira Sem-2 also released by IGKV, Raipur. The results of the on farm trials showed that Indira Sem-1 performed better than Indira Sem-2 and local variety. The yield of Indira Sem-1 recorded a higher yield (110.34 qtl ha-1) where as Indira Sem-2 recorded 103.83 qtl ha-1. The Number of pods per inflorescence was higher in Indira Sem-1 (21.41) where as it was 16.94 in Indira Sem-2 and 12.44 in local variety. The tenderness and quality of pods were good in both the improved varieties and the local variety. The time taken for maturity was higher in Indira Sem-1 Indira Sem-2 and the local variety. The yield parameters such as yield per plant, pod length and pod width are recorded to be better in the improved varieties than the local variety. The number of harvests was higher in Indira Sem-1 than in Indira Sem-2 and local varieties. All the yield-related parameters indicated that the variety Indira Sem-1 was better than Indira Sem-2 and the local variety. There was no significant difference in the cost of cultivation among the assessed varieties as the plant protection sprays were similar. Significantly higher productivity in Indira Sem-1 was obtained which resulted higher net returns. Top Keywords Dolichos bean, Indira Sem-1, Indira Sem-2, On-farm trial, Net returns. Top |
