Effect of different levels of GA3 with and without boron application on fruiting, yield and quality of guava fruits

Abstract

An experiment was laid out in Horticulture Garden Department of Fruit Science, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur (U.P.) to study the response of different levels of GA3 with and without boron on fruiting, yield and quality of Guava cv. Allahabad Safeda. The experiment was carried out using ten treatments, viz., T1- GA3 (20ppm), T2- GA3 (25ppm), T3- GA3 (30ppm), T4- GA3 (35ppm), T5- Boron (0.4%), T6- GA3 (20ppm) + Boron (0.4%), T7- GA3 (25ppm) + Boron (0.4%), T8- GA3 (30ppm) + Boron (0.4%), T9- GA3 (35ppm) + Boron (0.4%) and T10- Control (Distilled Water), which were replicated thrice in Randomized Block Design. The results of experiment clearly revealed that the use of GA3 with and without boron had a significant effect on the fruiting, yield and quality parameters of guava over control. The maximum number of flowers (54.22), fruit set (66.77%), fruit retention (64.88%), fruit length (7.59cm), the width of fruits (7.45cm), fruit weight (147.81g), fruit volume (152.91cc), yield (54.82kg/tree), total soluble solids (13.31° Brix), reducing sugar (4.97 %), non-reducing sugar (3.48%), total sugars (8.45%) and ascorbic acid (186.07mg/100g pulp) with minimum fruit drop (35.12%), and titratable acidity content (0.463%) were recorded with sprays of GA3 35ppm + boron 0.4%, whereas, maximum fruit drop (60.16%) and titratable acidity (0.742%) with minimum values for all other parameters were recorded in fruits produced from the plants kept under control in the North Indian plains.
