Abstract The experiment comprising twenty treatments and having different growing media and concentrations of gibberellic acid was laid out in Randomized block Design (Factorial) with three replications, on seed germination in hezalnut. Results obtained in the present investigation showed that the treatment combination M2G2 (Sand + Soil + FYM @ 1:1:2 + GA3 @ 250 ppm) was found best for early germination (20.86 days), maximum germination per cent (63.40 %), shoot length after 60, 120 and 180 days of seed sowing (9.86, 20.99 and 29.00 cm respectively), girth of the stem (3.53 mm), number of leaves at 60, 120 and 180 days after sowing (6.06, 11.80 and 14.13, respectively), leaf area (55.10 cm2), root length (22.63 cm), root diameter (4.46 mm), number of roots per seedlings (46.40), fresh weight of shoot and root (5.30 and 2.90 g, respectively), total fresh weight (8.20 g), dry weight of shoot and root (2.67 and 1.33 g, respectively) and total dry weight (4.00 g). Therefore, for better seed germination and seedling growth of hazelnut treatment combination M2G2 (Sand + Soil + FYM @ 1:1:2 + GA3 @ 250 ppm) is recommended.
