Abstract

The field experiment was conducted during 1994–95 to study the response of pointed gourd with varying levels of nitrogen (50, 100, and 150 kg/ha) an kinds of organic mulches (water hyacinth, paddy straw and sugarcane leaves) at the Instructional Farm of N.D. University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad. The increasing levels of nitrogen brought about corresponding increase in all the growth and yield contributing characters and application of 150 kg N/ha was found to be more profitable (169.60 q/ha). Water hyacinth used as organic mulch proved to be more effective with regard to growth and yield contributing characters in comparison to other organic mulches as well as control plots. 180.48 q/ha fruit yield was obtained whereas 150 kg nitrogen alongwith water hyacinth was used.
