Abstract

In today's world of globalisation and competition, education is as essential as food, clothes or shelter for human beings. It is a mechanism that paves one's way through life to face all the perils and struggles. On the one hand in India, we have references of education as old as the Ramayana, but as ages passed by, somewhere in the later Vedic age, it became a tool of the powerful, the rich and the higher caste. The situation further worsened in the two centuries of British rule. Even after six decades of independence, the figures show a low rate of literacy. The quality of education needs a total revamp, although it is on scale of improvement. Therefore, this study appraised the policies in improving education through public private partnership in Himachal Pradesh. This study has highlighted how the education market and effective regulatory framework can work together for the betterment of quality in education with effective employment of public resources.
