PowerPoint Presentations and Preservice Teaching: A Naturalistic Enquiry for Development Kanvaria Vinod Kumar Department of Education (CIE), University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 Email: vinodpr111@gmail.com Abstract In spite of growing era of technology, the use of technology is not getting enough importance in teaching practices by the school teachers. Lumsdaine(1964), Unwin(1969,79) and many others have strongly favored the opinion of use of technological apparatus in the field of education and training. Since computers are most easily available apparatus in schools now-a-days, which can be used by the teachers in their classroom practices and the most easy and effective way may be the use of self prepared PowerPoint presentations, but this is not being seen in general practice. To give to pace to such practice and to see its impact a small scale action research was held by the researcher with the help of twenty seven B. Ed. Students (Preservice teachers: PSTs) of Department of Education of University of Delhi where the use of powerpoint presentations is not a usual practice in school practice teaching. Under this project, PSTs prepared PowerPoint presentations and observed its impact on applying in their classroom teaching and finally discussion was held to see various related problems and finding out possible solutions. The essence of the research is that the use and application of PowerPoint presentations in the field of school teaching is highly effective and fruitful. Moreover it helped in developing the attitude of PSTs for using and applying these into their in-service teaching.
