Foreign Funding in Promotion of Literacy in Punjab Ajmal Mohammad, Hamid Syeda saira, Rahman Fazalur, Jumani Nabi Bux Department of Distance and Non formal education: Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad: Pakistan Email: nbjumani@ yahoo.com Abstract The purpose of the study was to examine the role of foreign funding in promotion of literacy in Punjab,Pakistan. It was a survey study. Data was collected using a questionnaire. Survey was conducted in twelve districts. Sample of the study consisted of 240 students, 24teachers, 6 administrators, 24 executive district officer literacy and 24 field officers. It was found that foreign funding increased the literacy rate but proper follow up was missing. The study also found that proper needs assessment was not conducted. The study recommended that proper needs assessment should be done before launching any program. It was also recommended that follow up may be integral part of the any project for literacy.
