Abstract

The modern world has to be sustainable, economical and environment friendly. Solar pump set is one of the alternative options for the use of non-conventional energy sources in replacement of existing petrol, diesel and electricity based pump sets. Solar energy is easily converted into useful form of work with the help of photovoltaic cell. In year 2015, Prime Minister has launched Saur Sujala Yojana, which provides solar irrigation pumps to farmers at a subsidized price. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has a programme for the development of various solar Photovoltaic (PV) applications, including water pumping systems. For installing solar photovoltaic water pumping system, financial assistance as per MNRE norms is provided (Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare). This study is based on “Present Practices of Non-conventional Sources for Water Pumping Systems in Chhattisgarh.” Based on the field exposures, visits and official records of Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) it has been realized that solar through photovoltaic system is the prime non-conventional energy source for water pumping in the state of Chhattisgarh. Total number of 120008 solar power pumping sets in different categories of horse power viz. 2 hp, 3 hp and 5 hp were installed in different districts of Chhattisgarh state during the year of 2016 to 2022 as on date 23.02.3023. The process of installation is a continuous process and is monitored online. The total number of pumps installation increased to 1,20,629 as on 28.02.2023 and is appropriately allocated into SC, ST, OBC and General category. Further the figure rises to 1,22,148 as on the last date of data collection, i.e. 14.03.2023. The Community Solar Irrigation Yojana is also implemented in the state and total numbers of 154 pumping sets varying in 7.5 hp, 10 hp, 15 hp and 20 hp have also been installed. Apart from this 23 community solar water pumping plants varying in 10 hp, 15 hp and 20 hp have also been installed under Indira Gaon Ganga Yojana for filling the 35 number of village ponds for domestic uses.
