Abstract

A 40 years male died as a result of atypical hanging and unusual findings were observed in his eyes, which are reported. Though the common findings in eyes in such cases are their complete or partial closure with usual dilatation of pupil. If the ligature knot presses the cervical sympathetic on one side then the eye on that side remains open and its pupil dilated which suggests antemortem hanging -Le facie sympathique. But in this case the left pupil was dilated with narrow palpebral fissure, where as the right eye was prominent/open with relatively narrow pupil. Role of cervical sympathetic system for such an unusual changes is discussed keeping in view the other possibilities, responsible for such an unusual changes.
