PUBLICATION ETHICS & MALPRACTICE STATEMENT

The publication ethics and malpractice statement for the Journal of Nursing Trendz is based on "COPE" Code of Conduct for Journal Editors. All the manuscripts submitted to this journal are reviewed based on the scientific content of the article submitted. There are no publications charges. The editors take all possible measures to uphold the standards of publication ethics in accordance to COPE so as to prevent malpractices.

Duties and responsibilities of editors

Editors should be accountable for everything published in their journals. This means the editors should:

  1. Strive to meet the needs of readers and authors;

  2. Strive to constantly improve their journal;

  3. Have processes in place to assure the quality of the material they publish;

  4. Champion freedom of expression;

  5. Maintain the integrity of the academic record;

  6. Preclude business needs from compromising intellectual and ethical standards;

  7. Always be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed.

Best practice for editors would include:

  • Actively seeking the views of authors, readers, reviewers and editorial board members about ways of improving their journal's processes.

  • Encouraging and being aware of research into peer review and publishing and reassessing their journal's processes in the light of new findings.

  • Working to persuade their publisher to provide appropriate resources, guidance from experts (e.g. designers, lawyers).

  • Supporting initiatives designed to reduce research and publication misconduct.

  • Supporting initiatives to educate researchers about publication ethics.

  • Assessing the effects of their journal policies on author and reviewer behaviour and revising policies, as required, to encourage responsible behaviour and discourage misconduct.

  • Ensuring that any press releases issued by their journal reflect the message of the reported article and put it into context.

Duties and responsibilities of reviewers:

  1. All Editorial decisions are based on peer review.

  2. The reviewers are expected to maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to the contents of manuscripts.

  3. Reviews are to be conducted objectively and the referees are expected to express their views clearly with supporting reasons.

  4. Reviewers should disclose any potential competing / conflict of interests before agreeing to review a submission.

  5. The reviewers are required to identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.

  6. Similarities or overlaps between the manuscript under review and any other published paper of which the reviewer may have personal knowledge, may also be brought to be notice of the editors.

Best practice for editors would include:

  1. Encouraging reviewers to comment on ethical questions and possible research and publication misconduct raised by inappropriate data manipulation and presentation.

  2. Encouraging reviewers to comment on the originality of submissions and to be alert to redundant publication and plagiarism.

  3. Considering providing reviewers with tools to detect related publications (e.g. links to cited references and bibliographic searches).

  4. Sending reviewers' comments to authors in their entirety unless they contain offensive or libellous remarks.

  5. Seeking to acknowledge the contribution of reviewers to the journal.

  6. Encouraging academic institutions to recognise peer review activities as part of the scholarly process.

  7. Monitoring the performance of peer reviewers and taking steps to ensure this is of high standard.

  8. Developing and maintaining a database of suitable reviewers and updating this on the basis of reviewer performance.

Responsibilities of Authors

  1. Authors are expected to the submit the manuscript based on the guidelines given by the editors.

  2. The authors are expected to submit a declaration form for the manuscript submission. It is expected that all the authors have significantly contributed to the research.

  3. Fraudulent and knowingly made inaccurate statement constitutes unethical behavior and would be unacceptable.

  4. Authors are required to ensure that the submitted work is original and has not been published elsewhere, and if the authors have used the work of others the same has been appropriately cited or quoted.

  5. Applicable copyright laws and conventions are required to be followed. Copyright materials should be reproduced only with permission and due acknowledgement.   6. Authors are not expected to submit manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently would constitute unethical practice and would be unacceptable.

  7. Proper acknowledgement of the work of others must always be made. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the paper which is submitted for publication. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Others who have participated in certain substantive aspects in the development of the paper should also be acknowledged.
