Abstract

This study investigates the moderating role of “Digital India Initiatives” on the relationship between users’ intention and usage behaviour of mobile wallets. Data was collected from smartphone users, and the PROCESS Macro Approach of Prof. Andrew F. Hayes was conducted to examine the moderating effect. The findings indicate that users’ intention to use mobile wallets has a positive effect on their actual usage behaviour. Furthermore, the presence of the Digital India Initiatives significantly moderated this relationship. Specifically, the Digital India Initiatives strengthen the link between intention and usage, suggesting that the government’s policy initiatives play a crucial role in encouraging users to influence their intention and actual usage of mobile wallets.

These results highlight the importance of government-led initiatives in shaping user behaviour and promoting the adoption of digital payment systems. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the moderating effect of the Digital India Initiatives on the intention-usage relationship of mobile wallet users. The findings have practical implications for policymakers and mobile wallet service providers, emphasizing the need to align their efforts with government initiatives to maximize user engagement and adoption of digital payment systems. The present study also provides valuable insights into the role of government initiatives in shaping user behaviour and encouraging the use of mobile wallets in the context of the Digital India Policy.
