Guide Lines to Authors

The Journal of Metallurgy and Materials Science is the official organ of the National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur 831 007, India. It is a quarterly publication. All editorial correspondence pertaining to the Journal including subscriptions and also authors wishing to have papers published to the Journal of Metallurgy and Materials Science may send them to : The Executive Editor, Journal of Metallurgy and Materials Science, National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur-831007, India. (E-mail: ngg@nmlindia.org / ngg1@rediffmail.com). The manuscript is to be submitted to a CD using MS Word/Page Maker software along with a single paper print. Submission of a script will imply that it has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; and further that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere.

Title Page:

  1. The title of the paper must be brief and contain words useful for indexing. Serial titles are to be avoided,

  2. The names with initials of authors and the name and address of the institution where the work was done must be given,

  3. An abbreviated running title of not more than 50 letters and spaces must also be given.

Abstract: Papers must have a brief abstract of the significant results reported therein.

Key Words: Between 3 and 7 keywords must be provided for indexing and information retrieval.

The Text: The paper must be divided into sections starting preferably with Introduction and ending with conclusions.

Tables: All tables must be numbered consecutively in arabic numerals in the order of occurrence in the text. They should be self contained and have a descriptive title.

Figures: All figures including photographs should be numbered consecutively in arabic numerals in the order of appearance in the text. Line drawings must be in Indian ink on good quality tracing paper or laser print out. Lines should be sufficiently thick (axes about 0.3 mm curves about 0.6 mm). Photographs if any should be given in glossy paper.

Units: Associated symbols must invariably follow SI practice.

References: References should be cited in the text by number. If there are more than three authors, reference should be to the first author followed by et. al. in the text. References at the end of the paper should be listed by authors’ names followed by initials, year of publication, name of the journal (abbreviated according to the World List of Scientific Periodicals, Butterwotths, London), volume number and number of the first page. Reference to books should include: Name(s) of author(s), initials, year of publication, title of the book, editing if not the first, initials and name(s) of editors if any, preceded by ed(s), place of publication, publisher, and chapter or pages referred to References to thesis must include the year, the title of the thesis, the degree for which submitted and the University.

Footnotes: Footnotes must be avoided to the extent possible but when necessary should be numbered consecutively and typed on a separate sheet.

Proofs: Authors are requested to prepare the manuscript carefully before submitting it for publication to minimize correctness and alterations to the proof which increase publication costs. Page proofs sent to the authors together with the reprint order form must be returned to the editorial office within 2-3 days of the receipt.

Reprints: 25 reprints of each article will be supplied to the first author and will be free of charge.
