Use of Digital Information and Reading Habits among the IIT Aspirants Preparing for JEE in Indore City

Abstract

The digital technologies are making an impact on the reading habits of students. The lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic made people divert towards using digital resources. IIT students have also suffered during the pandemic due to the closure of offline classes. Online classes and online study offered the solution, which might lead to a change in the reading habits of IIT Aspirants too. This study attempts to understand the current reading habits of IIT aspirants in the digital context. A Google form link has been created and circulated via various social media platforms and WhatsApp telegram groups. A total of 12 questions have been asked to understand the reading habits of IIT aspirants in the digital context. A total of 300 students filled out the Google form out of the same 62% of respondents were Male and 38% were female. The study explored that the Majority of respondents preferred print, but they also use digital technologies for academic purposes. The majority of respondents use digital resources for downloading the previous year’s papers followed by for exam preparation. The majority of students use digital resources for academic purposes as compared to leisure. WhatsApp is the most widely used social media app for academic purposes whereas YouTube is for leisure. Google Chrome is found as the most widely used browser.
