Abstract

Cryptography is an emerging technology, which is important for network security. It is the study of information hiding and verification. It includes the strategies to securely and consistently prevent or delay unauthorized access to sensitive information and enable verifiability of every component in a communication. Data Security is the main aspect of secure data transmission over unreliable network and a challenging issue. The information could be accessed by the unauthorized user for malicious purpose. Therefore, it is necessary to apply effective encryption/decryption methods to enhance data security. Cryptography is the art or science encompassing the principles and methods of transforming an intelligible message into one that is unintelligible and then retransforming that message back to its original form. Exciting developments in the field of Cryptography have been observed during the last few decades in the form of various encryption algorithms, protocols etc. Research on cryptography is still in its developing stages and a considerable research effort is still required for secured communication. This paper reviews a few common Encryption Algorithms and their security levels along with the possible attacks that these algorithms might face.
