Epidemic dropsy 1998 Murthy O.P.1, Vats V.2, Grover J.K.2 1Forensic Medicine, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Ansari Nagar, New Delhi-11 0049. 2Department of pharmacology Abstract Clinical reports describing signs and symptoms of dropsy have been described previously. We have assessed the clinical data of 523 patients who reported to the dropsy unit at the emergency at All India Institute of Medical Sciences. We have studied 523 patients, out of which 492 patients were tentatively diagnosed for dropsy. Our study revealed that 63.2% ofpatients were in the age group of 21–40 years, n=351 (71.34%) were males and n=141(28.65) were females. Edema of limbs(100%), diarrhea(l5.6%), abdominal pain(11.5%), burning sensation in eyes(9.1%), vomiting(8.94), dyspnea(8.7%) were the important findings. 1 patient reported varicose vein and epistaxis each.
