Abstract In the present paper, an attempt has been made to study the comparative economic analysis of tomato cultivation under a sprinkler irrigation system in southern Haryana using the primary data from 35 randomly selected farmers. A multistage random sampling technique was used for the selection of sample farmers. Two districts viz., Bhiwani and Rewari were selected for the study. From each district, two blocks namely Tosham and Loharu from Bhiwani district and Khol at Rewari and Nahar from Rewari districts were chosen further. The primary data were collected by personal interviews of the selected farmers with the help of a specially designed schedule. Simple statistical tools like averages, percentages, and Benefit-Cost ratio (BC ratio) were used to compare and interpret the results properly. The total variable cost incurred for the cultivation of tomato accounted for 140203.20 and 144476.20 in Rewari and Bhiwani districts, respectively. The results also showed that the total cost incurred in Rewari district ( 217714.10 ha−1) was lower than the cost incurred by Bhiwani district farmers ( 238229.80 ha−1). Net returns received were higher in Rewari district ( 325393.00) as compared to Bhiwani district ( 295486.90) because of the high returns per hectare in Rewari district. The BC ratio over total cost in Rewari, Bhiwani, and overall were 2.49, 2.24, and 2.36, respectively. Top Keywords BC ratio, Comparative economic analysis, Sprinkler irrigation, Tomato. Top |
