Abstract

Studies to assess Cauvery and Kabini river water quality were carried out in terms of physico-chemical and Calcium Carbonate saturation index to determine its suitability for various purposes. The data gathered at two stations along Krishna Rajanagar (KR Nagar) and four stations along Nanjangud town stretches of Kabini river and three stations at Srirangapatna stretches from October 2007 to September 2008 have been selected for the study. Various quality parameters considered are Temperature, pH, Conductivity, Chlorides, TDS, DO, BOD, COD, Nitrates, Phosphate, heavy metals and Calcium Carbonate saturation index in seasonal variations of rivers water quality parameters. From the obtained data, it was found that parameters like turbidity, DO, BOD, COD and CaCO3 saturation index were altering river water quality. The paper provides scientific information for implementation of River Action Plan and conservation of water body.
