Abstract Groundwater is the major source of water supply for domestic purpose in the urban as well as rural parts of Tamil Nadu. Natural water quality reflects the type and soluble and insoluble substances with which the water has come in contact and hence, physical, chemical, and biological quality of water shows wide variations. The quality of groundwater is most commonly affected by waste disposal and land use. In this study, physico-chemical parameters of the water samples collected from 20 wells of Alanthurai watershed region are estimated and presented in Geographical Information System based maps. From this study, it was observed that, except electrical conductivity, all the physico-chemical constituents tested were within the prescribed limit for irrigation purpose.
