Abstract

Utilization of Biomass for power generation prevents the emission of greenhouse gases. Industrial coal and petroleum coke gasification projects (for chemicals, hydrogen, power) are getting bigger. Residues obtained during Agricultural and industrial processing can be used to generate power for rural electrification in villages. Gasification is a process which converts carbonaceous materials to a combustible or synthetic gas contains (H2, CO, CO2, CH4). Combustible components include CO, H2 and traces of Methane and other products like tar and dust. Experiments carried out on wood husk gasification using air as a gasifying agent is presented in the present work. The lower calorific Value of fuel used for experimental studies is 15.5 MJ/kg. Silica sand of mean diameter 250 μm is used as an inert bed material in the CFB gasifier. The superficial velocity of 0.2 to 0.5 m/s and an operating temperature of 700.908oC were maintained in the CFB gasifier.
