Abstract

Thermal Energy is one of the deterministic factors to the Heat industries which need new combustion techniques for effective utilisation of heat energy of the fuel with controlled fuel consumption and emissions. A furnace operating below optimum efficiency levels can be improved by retrofitting with a new system which controls the flames inside the furnace and reduces heat losses. A system designed and experimented to improve the combustion process utilizing oscillating combustion technology by installing a new oscillating valve in the fuel line ahead of the burner and the supply of fuel is adjusted according to the required air-fuel ratios. Oscillating combustion technology is a simple, innovative retrofit technology can create fuel rich and fuel lean zones in the flame during the combustion. These fuel rich and fuel lean zones can break the thermal boundary layer in the furnace near the load resulting rapid increase in heat transfer to the load enhancing furnace efficiency and improvement in production capacity.
