Abstract This paper is an attempt to throw light on the concept of emotional labour (EL) and how it can be managed? If the employees feel pressure to adjust or suppresses emotions as the exchange for wages or any other thing, it is termed as an emotional labour. Emotional labour is a common phenomenon these days especially in industrial and professional settings. It is big a threat to the health and well-being of employees as it leads to various types of stresses, anxiety and depression etc. Sometimes employees are upset by emotional labour and they ^ find themselves unable to cope with job conditions, which can stir up them to take stern actions including the intention even to quit the organization. So the employees as well as the management should take desirable steps to deal with the problems related with the emotional labour. What is advisable in this situation is that the employees must learn how to cope with the problems of emotional labour and the management should take preventive steps as well as providing the facilities of counseling and training to employees for dealing with this problem. Thus developing the abilities to deal with emotional labour related problems and the managerial concern for their employees are beneficial for both the stakeholders. In view of the above, this article deals with the problems of emotional labour and the strategies to deal with it to enhance happiness and well-being of the employees.
